Frequently Asked Questions
Nutrition for dogs and cats starts with healthy, natural ingredients. This means high quality animal proteins like meat, poultry, and fish should make up the majority of your pet’s diet. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are also beneficial, providing many vital nutrients for your pet’s health and well-being.
We believe dogs and cats will be healthier and happier with variety in their diet – just like you! We also believe that eating the exact same thing every day may contribute to the development of allergies or lack of interest at feeding time. For optimal nutrition, we recommend rotating between flavors (chicken, beef, duck, venison, salmon) and formats (raw, kibble, canned). A rotation diet consisting of less processed ingredients (more meat, fruits and veggies, and less grain) can help provide optimal nutrition and help with weight control. As with our diets, it is easier to remain a healthy weight on less processed ingredients.
Complete and balanced means the diet contains all of the necessary vitamins and minerals that your pets needs for daily health and well-being. Some diets are complete and balanced for all life stages and all breeds and others may have solutions that are specific to puppies and kittens or seniors. We recommend working with your local Natural Pawz store that is knowledgeable on your pet’s needs and foods to help find the best one for you.
A dog’s and cat’s natural diet is high in meat, poultry, and fish protein and low in carbohydrates. A diet with high quality protein, fruits and veggies helps dogs and cats thrive, nourishing muscles and building strong bones. In addition, many pets have found relief from grain-related allergies with a grain-free diet. A highly digestible grain-free diet may also lead to less cleanup in the backyard and litter box. Not all grain free diets are the same. You should always research the manufacturer, analyze the ingredient list and do not forget to look at feeding amounts. Most high quality grain free items typically have much lower recommended feeding guidelines.
Dogs and cats are meat eaters by nature. That’s why raw, fresh meat is the most instinctive diet for your pet. A diet consisting primarily of raw meat, organs, bone, and fat reflects what your pet would eat in his natural habitat. With natural proportions of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, proteins, and amino acids, raw diets provide wholesome nutrition for the health and well-being of your animal companions.
Yes, most of our Raw Frozen Diets provide complete and balanced nutrition for dogs and cats, all life stages and all breeds. We also have some diets that are designed with organ/bone and raw meat that can be incorporated into a homemade diet or added with your pet’s current diet.
The reason a raw diet is good is that pets can better absorb naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and probiotics, which are reduced greatly when cooked. If you want a high meat, grain-free food that is cooked, we suggest you try kibble, canned and freeze dried / dehydrated diets.
You should always practice good hygiene just like when you prepare meals for yourself or your family. Always clean and disinfect working surfaces and utensils. Your pet’s food bowl should be washed after they finish each meal. Make sure to wash your hands before and after preparing your pet’s meals. These handling instructions are also found on the back of your raw food package.

It’s a natural instinct for your pet to bite or nibble on things. Instead of trying to prevent it, pet owners should embrace it by providing their pets with an assortment of natural chew toys to satisfy their chewing needs.
Chewing antlers are a great alternative for solving this issue. These treats are non-allergenic nor are they made with dyes or preservatives. Along with keeping your dog’s teeth clean, deer antlers are softer than the traditional bone and are odor free. Regular dental cleanings are necessary, as tarter and bad breath are signs of unclean teeth.
When deciding on food products, always refer to the ingredients section. Products that are 100% organic are a preferred choice. Finding a healthy diet differs between breeds of dogs so your best bet is to bring your pets to one of our locations and our well educated employees can help you find the best brands for your pet.
Yes we do! Even though bathing your dog can ironically get messy at times, its a chore that needs to be done regularly. Prior to bathing them, always brush and comb their coat completely to get hair knots out. One of the most important things to do when bathing your pet is to use a all-natural shampoo and conditioner. Try to scrub gently into their coat. When washing their face, use a hypoallergenic type soap to prevent irritation to the eyes.
